About Us

Since 2020, Dak Achana [healthy households] has been working at the intersection of economic empowerment, inclusion and mental health with women and youth at the center of our interventions.
As a community based organisation (CBO) we catalyze transformational social change by working with, connecting and championing women and youth rights with the aim of improving services, practices and policies around economic inclusion and health at the grassroots.

What We Are About

We are committed to tackling interconnected problems- from the existential threat of climate change, to persistent and pervasive inequities, to unjust power dynamics and systems and advancing solutions from every angle.
With a focus on women, girls and youth, our approach is rooted in the belief that true empowerment requires a holistic strategy that addresses both the environments in which women, girls and youth live and their individual realities and experiences. With a deep commitment and focus on local communities in western Kenya.
we promote constructive dialogue across difference, changing attitudes and behaviors, and mobilizing movements, to improving services, policies, and practices. Together, we are working to build an inclusive society where people, communities, and the planet flourish and live their full potential.

Our Approach

Our programs focus on four key pillars: climate action, economic empowerment and livelihoods, health, and participation and voice. We strive for a contextualized approach, tailoring our support and interventions to the specific needs and challenges identified through participatory consultations with rights holders. Women, girls and the youth are equal stakeholders in all our initiatives, playing a central role in shaping our
interventions.

Participation and Voice Pillar

We view meaningful participation and responsive and accountable government as a fundamental part of a healthy democracy as envisaged in the Kenyan Constitution of 2010. This pillar seeks to increase government and leaders’ responsiveness to the people they serve. We aim to facilitate civic awareness on local governance, public policy interaction, and support communities (women andyouth) in consolidating their voices on public issues that affect their lives and improving policy making and financing through effective use of evidence.

Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods Pillar

Aims to identify the challenges and promote opportunities enabling empowerment of women and youth recognizing the crucial role of women as caregivers and providers and youth as influencers for a better world. Our interventions focus on training, mentorship, linkages and seed grants to women and youth business including support with innovative
technologies and greening promotion.
